Name of the relevant MontEDIH service: Basic HPC training
Service provider: University of Donja Gorica – MontEDIH Service
Trainer: Prof. dr Ramo Šendelj, Prof.dr Ivana Ognjanović; Mr Luka Laković
Target users: Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and representatives of public institutions aiming to enhance business processes, data analysis, and AI implementation through the utilization of HPC resources.
Training Content
The training is designed as a two-day intensive program that combines theoretical understanding of HPC technologies with hands-on experience in a real-world HPC environment. Participants will acquire core competencies in accessing, managing, and applying HPC resources, including data analysis, parallel processing, and fundamental AI tasks relevant to SMEs and the public sector.
Day 1 is dedicated to the fundamentals of HPC and environment navigation. Participants will learn the definition of HPC, its advantages over cloud and local systems, and specific use cases in business and public sectors. Through practical exercises, attendees will familiarize themselves with Linux commands, file and directory management, software modules, and basic job scheduling.
Day 2 focuses on practical workflows and data analysis. Participants will cover dataset organization and preparation, the basics of parallel data processing, and the application of HPC for analysis and simple AI scenarios. Practical sessions include job execution, result monitoring, resource optimization, and troubleshooting common technical challenges. The final workshop integrates all acquired skills through a real-world business scenario, such as sales analysis or demand forecasting.
