MontEDIH – Strategic Support for the Digital Transformation of the Montenegrin Economy

Digital transformation is no longer a choice, but a necessity for sustainable growth and economic competitiveness. In this process, micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, as well as public institutions in Montenegro, gain a strong ally through the Montenegrin European Digital Innovation Hub – MontEDIH. As the first initiative of its kind in the country, MontEDIH represents an integrated platform of knowledge, technology, and support, designed to facilitate organizations’ transition toward modern, digitally advanced and environmentally responsible business models.

The core value of MontEDIH lies in its practical approach. By enabling the testing of advanced digital solutions in real-life environments, users are given the opportunity to assess the functionality and impact of new technologies before making investment decisions. This model significantly reduces business risk, particularly for smaller enterprises that often lack sufficient resources to experiment with innovation. In this way, digitalization becomes more accessible, faster, and better aligned with actual market needs.

A special focus of MontEDIH is placed on the development of human capital. In today’s economy, technological advancement cannot achieve its full impact without adequately trained professionals. For this reason, the hub implements training programs, workshops, and educational activities aimed at enhancing the digital skills of employees, management, and public administration staff. These activities help organizations adapt more easily to change, introduce new tools, and improve operational efficiency, while simultaneously strengthening a culture of innovation.

MontEDIH also plays an important advisory role in the field of innovation financing. Through information-sharing and expert guidance, users are introduced to opportunities offered by European and national funds, support programs, and financial instruments dedicated to digital development, research, and innovation. This support is particularly valuable for companies with no prior experience in preparing project proposals or participating in international programs, as it helps them identify development opportunities and plan long-term investments.

One of the key elements of MontEDIH’s activities is its connection with the European innovation ecosystem. As part of a network of approximately 150 European Digital Innovation Hubs, MontEDIH opens the door for Montenegrin organizations to international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and access to advanced technologies. Through networking with partners from other countries, companies and institutions gain opportunities to participate in joint projects, develop new solutions, and strengthen their position in regional and European markets.

The strength of MontEDIH stems from the broad and diverse partnership forming its consortium. The project brings together leading institutions in the fields of education, science, innovation, and business: the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Montenegro as coordinator, the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro, the Institute of Modern Technologies of Montenegro, the Science and Technology Park Montenegro, the University of Donja Gorica, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center Tehnopolis, Center for Finance, and ICT Cortex. This structure enables the integration of academic knowledge, research capacities, and practical business experience, creating a strong framework for supporting digital transformation at the national level.

The role of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro is particularly significant in bringing MontEDIH’s services closer to the real sector. Through direct communication with companies from various industries, the Chamber contributes to a better understanding of business needs and to the more efficient delivery of digital solutions, training programs, and advisory services. This ensures that the benefits of digital transformation are accessible to a wide range of enterprises, regardless of their size or previous level of digital maturity.

At the same time, MontEDIH contributes to the green transition by promoting technologies and practices that encourage more efficient use of resources, reduction of environmental impact, and sustainable business operations. By integrating digital and green solutions, the hub supports Montenegro’s strategic objectives in sustainable development and alignment with European policies.

The MontEDIH project is co-financed by the European Union through the Digital Europe Programme, with significant participation from the Government of Montenegro and the project partners themselves. This funding model confirms confidence in the importance and long-term value of the initiative, as well as its role in strengthening the digital resilience and competitiveness of the Montenegrin economy.

Open to cooperation with all interested companies, startups, and institutions, MontEDIH represents a reliable partner for those seeking to enhance their operations, implement modern technologies, and actively contribute to building a modern, innovative, and European-integrated Montenegro.
